Hi All, One of the finest of all the crooners, Tony Martin has died today of natural causes at the age of 98. He was featured in films such as the 'Big Store' with the Marx Bros in 1941, Ziefgield Girl with Judy Garland and Lana Turner and 'Easy to Love' with Van Johnson and Esther Williams. He is however best remembered as a recording artist, having many top ten hits including his million selling recording of 'To Each His Own' (which is a very fine recording of that song). Tony Martin was at one time married to Alice Faye and more famously to Cyd Charrise from 1948 until the lady's death in 2008. Almost operatic sounding at times, he possessed of of the best and strongest voices of the 30's, 40's and 50's and was often recorded live in his film singing appearances. Here is a piece about Tony Martin from today's Hollywood Reporter: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/singer-actor-tony-martin-dies-355864 Vale to a fine singer. With Respect -- Michael

Thanks Michael. He was indeed a fine singer and I was soooo in love with the lovely Cyd Charisse. 98 and married to 2 beautiful women is not a bad innings at all. Cheers Peter

    Hi Peterm.
One of my favourite Tony Martin films is 'Casbah' (1948) where he played Pepe le Moko.
Terrific little film with Peter Lorre in fine form also. The songs in the film were great!
Haven't seen it in many a year. I think Bill Collins last screened it on Channel 10, so that must have been in the late 1980's. Definitely due for a comeback for this little gem!
    Best -- Michael

I do vaguely remember that one Michael. Would be great to see it again. I liked him in the Big Store as well. Probably not the best of the wonderful Marx bros but he was very good in it. Cheers

Casbah has been screened on the ABC and they still own the rights.

Thanks for the heads up, Hondo. Hoping that ABC screen this little gem sometime in the near future.

    Cheers -- Michael
