Biography
Born Nigel John Dermot "Sam" Neill in Northern Ireland to army parents, his family moved to the South Island of New Zealand in 1954. He studied English literature at the University of Canterbury where he had his first exposure to acting and then moved to Wellington to continue his tertiary education at Victoria University from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature.
He has had a large degree of success internationally as well as in Australia and New Zealand and has appeared in either leading or co staring roles in mainstream Hollywood films such as; Dead Calm (1989), The Hunt for Red October (1990), The Piano (1993), Jurassic Park (1993) as well as it’s sequel film Jurassic Park III (2001), Sirens (1994), Jungle Book (1994), Event Horizon (1997), Bicentennial Man (1999) and Australian comedy The Dish (2000).
