Biography

Jon Voight is an American film actor with many accolades to his name. A native New Yorker, Voight started his acting career on stage and gained some television roles in the 1960's. His first film role would come to him in 1967 in Fearless Frank but it wasn't until 1969 that Voight became well known after his role in the risqué John Schlesinger film Midnight Cowboy alongside Dustin Hoffman.

He later went on to star in over 60 feature films, some of the most notable ones including Mike Nichols classic film adaptation of Catch-22 (1970) and John Boorman's Deliverance (1972), the later of which he was nominated for a Golden Globe for best actor. He has been nominated for four Academy Awards and won one for best actor for his role in Coming Home (1978). He has also been nominated for nine Golden Globes.

Some of his other more notable screen appearances include Runaway Train (1985), Heat (1995), Mission: Impossible (1996), The Rainmaker (1997), and Transformers (2007).

Having had a career spanning over 40 years, Voight is also a notable political conservative who has offered his support to a number of right wing campaigns. He also has two children, James Haven (born 1973), and a daughter, Angelina Jolie (born 1975), both of whom are actors. His Daughter Angelina rose to a fame level beyond that of her father becoming an international sensation and action star.
