Biography

Actor, film director, and narrator, Morgan Freeman is one of the most recognisable figures in the world of cinema. His most defining characteristic of his acting is his characters often possessing a reserved demenor, yet this is often applied to authoritative roles. He has played characters as diverse as Malcom X through to slaves, generals, criminals, and GOD himself.

His first real success came in the form of television sketch comedy show The Electric Company (1971) which ran for seven years and of which Freeman was in 780 episodes. He later moved on to play more serious roles and is best known for his performances as Hoke Colburn in Driving Miss Daisy (1989), Azeem in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves  (1991), Geel Piet in The Power of One (1992), Ellis Boyd 'Red' Redding in The Shawshank Redemption (1994), Detective Lt. William Somerset in Se7en (1995), and as Lucius Fox in Christopher Nolans reimagining of the Batman series Batman Begins (2005) and The Dark Knight (2008).

Having recieved a host of Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations amongst others, Freeman has only one of each, winning the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Million Dollar Baby (2004) and the Golden Globe for Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy for his role in Driving Miss Daisy (1989).
