Josephine
Hull

Born 3 Jan 1886 · Died 12 Mar 1957

Biography

An award winning screen and stage actress, Josephine Hull had a 50 year career on the stage appearing in countless productions, the three most successful Broadway hits including You Can't Take It With You (1936), Arsenic and Old Lace (1941), and Harvey (1944). These three productions took up a whole decade of Hulls life and the later two would be made into films that Hull was to star in.

In her career she only appeared in six films; The Bishop's Candlesticks (1929), After Tomorrow (1932), The Careless Lady (1932), Arsenic and Old Lace (1944), Harvey (1950), and The Lady from Texas (1951). Her most successful of these was her role in Harvey for which she won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.

She died in 1957 of a cerebral haemorrhage, her age not being certain as because of the nature of actresses and age, her birth date may have in fact been earlier in 1883 and therefore three years older than what her listed age was (71).
