Biography
A Japanese musician, composer, record producer, writer, singer, pianist, and actor, Ryuichi Sakamoto has received many awards for his music and feature film scores. While only having appeared as an actor in 3 feature films, he has composed the music for over 30.
His two most notable screen roles are as Capt. Yonoi in the war film Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence (1983) alongside David Bowie, and the film The Last Emperor (1987). Apart from acting in these two films he also scored the soundtracks of both of them and won both an Academy Award and Grammy for his scoring of the latter.
