Synopsis

Having had various incarnations of the show between 1951 and 199, The Benny Hill Show featured Benny Hill in various short comedy sketches as well as the occasional extravagant musical performance by hit artists of the time. Mostly consisting of Slapstick, burlesque and double entendres, the show was often accused of sexism, but Hill said that female characters kept their dignity while the men chasing them were portrayed as buffoons.

Famously recognised by many for Hill's use of camera and editing techniques the show normally closed with a speeded-up chase scene involving himself and often a crew of scantily-clad women, parodying the silent Keystone Kops chase scenes. He was also known for composing and singing patter songs and often entertained his audience with lengthy high-speed double-entendre rhymes and songs, which he recited or sang in a single take.

A pioneer of television parody, during his career Hill impersonated American celebrities such as W. C. Fields, Orson Welles (renamed "Orson Buggy") and Raymond Burr as well as fictional characters, ranging from The Six Million Dollar Man, Starsky and Hutch, Kenny Rogers, Marlon Brando, The A-Team and Cagney & Lacey.
